This will be our annual Change of Watch meeting. It is also a time for us to discuss squadron plans for coming out of the Covid Pandemic social restrictions. During the past year that we have been on lockdown, we still managed to teach five courses via Zoom. Four students successfully completed the weather course. Eight students successfully completed the Boat Handling course. Four students successfully completed the Junior Navigation course. Currently, five students are taking the Navigation course and eight students completed the Advanced Piloting Course. A year ago, I had never heard of Zoom. Now I use it several times a week as well as having taught the ten-week advanced piloting course. Feedback from the AP students included:
It was nice to be able to take courses from home and not having to rush to a classroom.
The visual aids (PowerPoints) were easier to read on the computer monitor than in the classroom.
They missed the interaction with fellow students that is difficult to accomplish through Zoom.
Please give us some feedback on the courses that you think we should be teaching going forward. Also, if any of you would like to participate by teaching a course or serving as a Vessel Safety Checks Examiner, let us know. Attached is the nominating slate produced by the nominations committee. Note that we still have need for an administrative officer!
Hope to see you at our April 21st Change of Watch meeting,
Jack Reed, AP, Squadron Secretary
